Exploring men’s mental health
Men and boys are all individuals with different circumstances, personalities, strengths, and challenges. However, as
Our featured artist is Grace Fox and we are proud to present her short video “Awakening”.
Grace Fox is a talented film student at the University of Queensland. Her short film Awakening is a beautiful symbolic journey of her battle with an eating disorder, a mental health challenge that she has overcome, and which she continues to manage.
Grace describes herself as feeling weightless and invisible during her struggle.
A word from the artist:
“As I faced my darkest moments I never felt more invisible and alone in my entire life, because of my illness I pushed everyone I loved away from me. I lost my relationship, friendships, family, and most importantly myself.
For years I was a broken soul struggling to find the light at the end of the tunnel. Throughout my life I expressed my melancholy through my art, I was a visual artist, dance performer and now, a videographer and photographer.
Around the time I made this video I had started to reinvent myself, finding meaning to life, and my purpose – which is to help and inspire other people through my art to see the world in a different light.
I hope one day I can make a difference and be the change I wish to see in this world”
The Luminate Team celebrates Grace and her courage to overcome, and share her journey to help others.
May this thoughtful video give hope to the 1 million Australians each year who experience eating disorders. We also and send hope to their families and loved ones, who stand by them. You are not invisible.
Watch this space as we continue to work with Grace on our own positive mental health and wellness videos.
